Butea superba has shown a remarkable ability, both in modern research and traditional usage, to stimulate the sexual libido, encouraging stronger orgasms, increased blood flow, and higher chances of conception.
Freud’s first famous case history was written to buttress his theory on dreams, and he groups the case history around two of Ida Bauer’s dreams, whereas Nabokov, of course, had no such agenda in mind. But Nabokov does seem influenced by Freud though he would not admit it I’m sure. There are two seductions in Lolita, a prequel if you will with Annabel whom H.H. has met and loved at thirteen. She is Lolita's precursor, just as there are two seductions of Dora at thirteen and fifteen by Herr K.
Both the writers speak in their prefaces of the necessity of hiding the identity of the people in what will be the case history and the novel. Nabokov, in the guise of a fictive editor, John Ray, Ph.D. says, “Save for the correction of obvious solecisms and a careful suppression of a few tenacious details that despite H.H.’s efforts still subsisted in his text as signposts and tombstones ( indicative of places or persons that taste would conceal and compassion spare) this remarkable memoir is presented intact.”
Freud tells us of his attempts to hide the identity of Ida Bauer. “I have picked out a person the scenes of whose life were laid not in Vienna but in a remote provincial town, and whose personal circumstances must therefore be practically unknown in Vienna. “ All of this makes us curious of course. Who and what lies behind these shocking stories? How much truth do they hide?
Nabokov even gives us some details of what has happened at the end of the novel to some of the characters ( all the main characters, even little Lolita is to die) just as Freud tells us that he has postponed the publication of this case history until hearing that a change has taken place in the life of his patient ( hinting at Ida’s marriage and the birth of her son.)
Though both writers admit to concealing names and places, they insist that it was necessary to write without what Nabokov calls “platitudinous evasions.” Nabokov like Freud is determined to call un chat un chat.
Freud says, piquing our interest: “ If it is true that the causes of hysterical disorders are to be found in the intimacies of the patients’ psychosexual life and that hysterical symptoms are the expression of their most secret and repressed wishes, then the complete elucidation of a case of hysteria is bound to involve the revelation of those intimacies and the betrayal of those secrets.”
In other words both these authors, masters at their game, insist on the necessity of their frankly divulging secrets of a sexual nature, which naturally makes us want to read on.
Both authors tell us that they are thinking of the good of the general public. Freud says, “ But in my opinion the physician has taken upon himself duties not only towards the individual patient but towards science as well; “ and Nabokov concludes his foreward with the ironic but perhaps also true words: “for in this poignant personal study there lurks a general lesson. Lolita should make all of us--parents social workers educators—apply ourselves with still greater vigilance and vision to the task of bringing up a better generation in a safer world. “
In other words both these works are necessary and illuminating for humanity which indeed they both are.
Feminism is dangerous because it erodes functional hierarchical structures of society. Let feminism have its ways, and you end up with all and everything being a mess.
Fabiano Antoniani expressed frustration with his homeland shortly before triggering the lethal substance
A paralysed DJ ended his own life with the press of a button in Switzerland after a fruitless campaign for euthanasia in his native Italy.
Fabiano Antoniani died at a euthanasia facility in Forch after reportedly triggering the lethal substance.
The 40-year-old had campaigned for a change in the assisted suicide law in his homeland, but Italy's parliament had shelved the debate 11 times.
Former MEP and activist Marco Cappato, who travelled with Mr Antoniani to Switzerland, could face criminal charges after helping escort the musician to the facility.
Police have questioned him over the death, he said on Twitter.
Mr Antoniani was left blind and tetraplegic by car crash in 2014. The DJ dropped his phone while driving and smashed into the car in front of him as he tried to pick it up.
Also known as quadriplegia, Tetraplegia is paralysis caused by illness or injury that results in the partial or total loss of use of all four limbs and torso.
He appealed to Italy President Sergio Mattarella for the right to die, and shortly before his death, criticised the country for failing to pass laws allowing him to do so.
“Finally I am in Switzerland and, unfortunately, I got here on my own and not with the help of my country,” he said, in a message posted on social media shortly before his death.
“Fabo died at 11.40am. He decided to pass away, respecting the rules of a country which is not his own,” Mr Cappato wrote on Twitter, shortly after he died.
Roberto Saviano, an Italian journalist, who was a friend of DJ Fabo, also wrote: “We distinctly heard you ask for a dignified death. There is no possible justification for the silence that you’ve achieved in response.
“There is no possible justification for the lack of empathy, of attention, and humanity, from the European Parliament, and from the country, which by fate, you were born in.”
Euthanasia is illegal in Italy, a traditionally Catholic country, but the law upholds a patient’s right to refuse care.
A bill to clarify assisted suicide law has been postponed in Italy three times, but according to La Stampa, will be debated by the Chamber of Deputies this week.
Hundreds have travelled to Zurich to end their lives since the Dignitas organisation was set up in 1998.
The number of assisted suicides in Switzerland, according to statistics from Dignitas and Exit, stood at 416 in 2011 but 1,004 in 2015.
In the UK, a woman suffering from Crohn's disease last month said she will pay £10,000 to end her life in Switzerland because of social care cuts
Feminism, by creating artificial scarcity of sexual resources, is responsible for much of the deadly infighting among men, as well as male suicides.
Vladimir Putin says his life is a bottomless bowl of cherries – and that things are always great because he’s “not a woman.”
“I am not a woman, so I don’t have bad days,” the Russian strongman said in a cream puff interview at the Kremlin with conspiracy theorist and filmmaker Oliver Stone.
“I am not trying to insult anyone. That’s just the nature of things. There are certain natural cycles.”
The “JFK” and “Wall Street” director had access to Putin for over two years to create a Showtime series that will air starting June 12, Bloomberg reported.
In addition to reveling in his manly manliness, Putin said Edward Snowden was wrong to release US secrets, that he lifts weights and swims every day, and that a 2013 Russian law barring distribution of “gay propaganda” to minors does not mean gays are discriminated against in Russia.
“There are no restrictions whatsoever,” he said.
But asked if he’d take a shower in a submarine next to a gay man, the Russian leader laughed before replying.
“Well, I prefer not to go to the shower with him. Why provoke him? But you know, I’m a judo master,” he said.

Extracts of the plant Eurycoma longifolia have been shown to possess cytotoxic, antimalarial, anti-ulcer, antipyretic and plant growth inhibition activities. The present study investigated the effects of extracts and their chromatographic fractions from the root of E. longifolia on the growth of a human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. Our data indicated that E. longifolia extracts and fractions exert a direct antiproliferative activity on MCF-7. The bioassay-guided root fractionation resulted in the isolation of three active fractions, F5, F6 and F7, which displayed IC50 values of (6.17±0.38) μg/ml, (4.40±0.42) μg/ml and (20.00±0.08) μg/ml, respectively. The resultant from F7 purification, F16, exhibited a higher cytotoxic activity towards MCF-7, (IC50=15.23± 0.66 μg/ml) and a certain degree of selectivity against a normal breast cell line, MCF-10A (IC50=66.31±0.47 μg/ml). F16 significantly increased apoptosis in MCF-7 cells, as evaluated by the Tdt-mediated dUTP nick end labelling assay and nuclear morphology. Western blotting revealed down-regulation of the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein expression. F16, however, did not affect the expression of the pro-apoptotic protein, Bax. These results, therefore, suggest that F16 has antiproliferative effects on MCF-7 cells by inducing apoptosis through the modulation of Bcl-2 protein levels.

Penis size has been the root of men’s anxiety throughout history, and the need to enlarge penises to improve self-esteem still exists today. A man in Germany who received silicone injections for a penis enlargement proves bigger isn’t always better. Micha Stunz, a 45-year-old from Berlin, shared with Vice the heavy price he must pay for his 7-pound, 9-inch-long, and 3-inch-wide penis, which is nothing short of amusing.
“After you reach a certain size, you can't do certain things anymore. At least not with everyone and not without some foreplay. But there are other things you can do with it,” Stunz told Vice. “You just have to free yourself from established roles and hardened ideas about sex and be ready to play.”
Stunz's desire to get a penis enlargement started 20 years ago when he used a penis pump. He found when he went out pumped up, “it was a good feeling. It felt great. ... I had the feeling that I wasn't trapped in the body I was born with, but that I had the possibility to shape it myself to change it."
This inspired him to try enlarging himself with saline injections, but he did not like that they would only temporarily change his groin area. So, Stunz turned to silicone injections as a permanent solution for enlarging his penis and scrotum. However, these injections could lead to an infection and leave Stunz mutilated.
In a 2012 report published in the journal Urology Annals, researchers described five cases where patients who got penis enhancements via liquid silicone injections suffered debilitating effects. A case study with a 44-year-old contractor found a silicone injection by a traditional medicine practitioner for erectile dysfunction left swelling over the injected site. The patient experienced recurrent episodes of ulceration and serious discharge from the site.
Stunz, who has had silicone injected into both his penis and scrotum, currently has four procedures behind him. It’s not clear whether he will seek more in the future, but he recalled the sensations being more pleasant than painful. “At first, the silicone feels foreign, but over time it feels more and more like part of your body,” he said.
Aside from urinating sitting down on a toilet, struggling to buy a new pair of pants, or have sex, he leads a normal life, he says, buying groceries, going to bars, clubs, the movies, and attending bondage festivals.

During the Middle Ages, torture was considered a legitimate way to extract confessions, punish offenders, and perform executions. Some methods were considerably crueler than others — these 10 being among the most barbaric and brutal.
Europe's Medieval period lasted from the 5th to the 15th century. During this time, torture was often used to extract confessions, or obtain the names of accomplices or other information about crimes. Laws and local customs did not impose limits on the treatment of prisoners or the extent to which torture could be inflicted. In fact, confessions were not considered genuine or sincere when so-called "light torture" was used (such as toe wedging and strappado).
Different types of torture were used depending on the victim's crime, gender, and social status. Skilled torturers would use methods, devices, and instruments to prolong life as long as possible while inflicting agonizing pain. Many prisoners were tortured prior to execution in order to obtain additional information; in many of these cases, the execution method was part of the torture endured by prisoners.
There are dozens upon dozens of different torture techniques and devices. I recently visited the Museum of Medieval Torture Instruments in Prague where these 10 caught my eye. But before you read any further, be warned that they are very graphic and disturbing.
1. The Judas Cradle
Also called the Judas Chair, this Italian invention was particularly cruel.
Using ropes, a prisoner would be lowered above the pyramid-shaped "seat" with the point inserted into the anus or vagina. Victims would be tortured by intense pressure and stretching of the orifice, resulting in permanent damage. In many cases, the victim would succumb to rips in the muscle tissue that would later become infected. Weights would be added to facilitate the effect, often resulting in death by impalement.
A similar device, called the Spanish Donkey (or wooden horse), achieved a similar effect. Victims straddled the triangular "horse" and were forced to place their full body weight on their crotch, which rested on the point of the angle.
2. Saw Torture
This was a form of execution in which a living person was sawed in half, either longitudinally or transversely, through the central body mass.
This was done either by sawing the individual in half across or along the body length.
3. Pear of Anguish
This heinous contraption was used during the Middle Ages as a way to torture women who were accused of facilitating a miscarriage. It was also used to punish liars, blasphemers, and homosexuals. The device was inserted into one of the prisoner's orifices — the vagina for women, the anus for homosexuals, and the mouth for liars and blasphemers (which is why it's also known as the Choke Pear).
The device featured four metal leaves that slowly separated from each other as the torturer turned the screw at the top. The torturer could use it to tear the skin, or expand it to its maximal size to mutilate the victim. It rarely caused death, but was often followed by other torture methods.
4. Breaking Wheel
Also known as the Catherine wheel, this torture device was used to torture and kill prisoners for public executions.
The device was typically a large wagon wheel with radial spokes. Offenders were were lashed to the wheel and their limbs beaten with a club or iron cudgel. The gaps in the wheel allowed the limbs to give way and break. Disturbingly, the survival time after being "broken" could be extensive, with some accounts of victims living for several days prior to succumbing to their mortal injuries.
5. Iron Chair
This torture device was used extensively during the Middle Ages. Victims would be placed onto the chair — which featured hundreds of sharp spikes — followed by the progressive tightening of iron restraints, forcing the spikes deep into the
This could go on for hours, sometimes days. The spikes did not penetrate vital organs and blood loss was minimized — at least until the person was released from the chair. Death often followed. The Iron Chair was often used as a psychological instrument of torture; victims would often confess after being forced to watch other prisoners being tortured by the device.
6. Head Crusher
The device, which is basically a vise for the head, slowly crushes the skull and facial bones. Even if the torturer stopped before death, permanent damage to the facial muscles and structure would occur.
7. Rat Torture
Rats have also been employed to perform torture. There were many variants, but a common technique was to force a starving rat through a victim's body (usually the intestines) as a way to escape.
To make it work, prisoners were completely restrained and tied to the ground or any horizontal surface. A rat was then placed on the stomach covered by a metallic container, which was gradually heated. The rat began to look for a way out, which inevitably meant through the victim's body. Digging through the body usually took a few hours, resulting in a painful and gruesome death.
8. Coffin Torture
This was one of the most dreaded forms of torture during the Medieval Period.
The accused were placed inside a caged coffin, rendering them completely immobile. The period of time was determined by the crime, with some infractions, like blasphemy, punishable by death. Victims were often put on public display, where they would be mocked and abused by angry locals.
9. Breast Ripper
This one's particularly nasty — not that the other items on this list aren't. Also known as the Iron Spider, it was mainly used on women who were accused of adultery, self-abortion, heresy, blasphemy, or accused of being witches. It was also used for interrogations.
The device, which was often heated during torture, contained four "claws" which were used to slowly and painfully rip off the breasts. The instrument would be latched onto a single breast of the woman. Blood sometimes splattered onto her children. If the woman did not die, she would be disfigured for the rest of her life. Other variations of this torture also existed.
10. Knee Splitter
Popular during the Inquisition, this device consisted of two spiked wood blocks which were placed in front of and behind the knee.
The blocks, which were connected by two large screws, would be turned and made to close towards each other, destroying the knee underneath. The technique would render the knees useless. The number of spikes on the blocks varied from three to twenty, often depending on the nature of the crime and the status of the prisoner.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, flatters a girl more than a man committing suicide because of her.
A report released on Tuesday outlined a lengthy review of Central Intelligence Agency interrogation techniques used on detainees after 9/11. It described several methods, including abdominal slaps, cramped confinement, and dietary manipulation, that were employed to gain information from people being held.
Since the Senate Intelligence Committee's report came out, CBS News has obtained further documentation on torture techniques, but this time from an al Qaeda handbook that described what types of interrogation methods its members might encounter if they are captured.
Al Qaeda chapter describing alleged torture techniques
The handbook, which was seized in 2000 in the Manchester, England home of Anas al Liby, a student at the time. It was a translation from its "Declaration of Jihad" and is broken down into two dimensions, physical and psychological torture.
It purports to know the methods of torture that are used by secret agents in order to glean information from captured detainees. Although several situations are described under which torture could be experienced, it is not necessarily specific to the United States. However, it does mention nations where the U.S. has military installations.
Listed under physical, al Qaeda's leaders told members they may experience blindfolding, hanging by the hands or feet, forcing individuals to stand naked for long periods; pouring cold water over one's head; pulling out nails and hair; forcing consumption of watery foods, then constricting the genitals; and drugging.
Psychological tortures included social isolation; threatening to find and rape female relatives, or even the detainee himself; threatening permanent physical injury; controlling all of the individual's singular actions; and removal of individual identity to the point of forbidding calling one by name.
The writer of the handbook emphasizes that the methods described comes from actual accounts of experiences of al Qaeda members imprisoned throughout the Middle East.
"Let no one think that the aforementioned techniques are fabrications of our imagination, or that we copied them from spy stories," the manual says. "On the contrary, these are factual incidents in the prisons of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and all other Arab countries."
It goes on to describe the degradation of veiled women, the rape of family members of an al Qaeda operative, and security personnel causing the wife of another to have a miscarriage.
It is unclear if the findings of the Senate Intelligence Committee completely match or corroborates what was found in the al Qaeda manual, but they do not seem to include waterboarding, the most controversial technique outlined by the committee.
CIA officials serving in the agency during the post-9/11 period have criticized the report, saying it is "deeply flawed" and denying that any detainees were tortured.
"It's inaccurate. It's a report that tends to apparently deal with salacious aspects of our interrogation program," said Charles Allen, former intelligence chief with the Department of Homeland Security and the CIA.

Does the Islamic State have chemical or biological weapon capabilities? New intelligence suggests that the terrorist state is actively attempting to produce both, and the terrorist state has used chemical weapons before.
In August, it was confirmed that Kurds fighting ISIS in northern Iraq were exposed to mustard gas. According to The Guardian, this was confirmed by German intelligence who collected blood samples from Kurds who were hurt in battle. It was also reported that Marea, a town in northern Syria, was allegedly subjected to a chemical attack in August, too. However, this could not be independently confirmed.
New information suggests that ISIS is looking to ramp up its chemical and biological weapon capabilities. Chemical weapons can include nerve agents, ricin, lewisite, and mustard gas, but also more dangerous agents like phosgene, which is a colorless, suffocating gas responsible for 85,000 deaths in World War I. Biological weapons can include agents like anthrax, cholera, and the plague.
The Associated Press reports that Iraqi and U.S. intelligence officials have stated that ISIS has “[set] up a branch dedicated to research and experiments with the help of scientists from Iraq, Syria.” However, it is not a cause for alarm.
